Default Looks like I'm gonna get caught with S-03s in the snow......

I haven't time to have the Winter tires put on (and just don't feel like doing it myself this year) and they're calling for some snow and cold weather over the next several days.

How much worse are S-03s in snow than the Blowtenza RE40s?? They're already noticably harder below 40 degrees. The tread pattern doesn't instill much confidence.

BTW, this post is on topic.

Default if you have to ask... :-(

performance tires + snow = bad news

how much worse the S-03s might be compared to some other performance tire is just a matter of degree. you can assume they won't be significantly better than the RE040s, and might well be worse. either way is not good.
Quattro won't save you if you have 4 wheels' worth of "no traction"...

if you have the snows already mounted on the rims, and just need to swap the wheels, should take under an hour - would be time well-spent if you value life & limb... (unless you can stay home and avoid the snow)

Default Hey Joel...if they're worse than the RE040's, I wouldn't even attempt to drive in the snow...

I drove once last year in snow with my RE040's and I was sliding all over the place and couldn't stop. It was not fun at all. This is the reason my Jetta is at the shop getting some things fixed today. I hardly ever drive it, but I don't have snow tires yet for the TT, so if it snows I am driving the Jetta.

Default I just got caught with them...

I was over a friends house, looked out side, and saw 2 inches of snow. No snow plows out yet, so that meant borrowing the couch. Called into work this morning and took my time getting home! Waited til about 9am after the plows had done the best they could.

Couple of iffy spots to say the least, but I've been in worse off conditions, happy with how it handled.

Trying to deicded if I should replace the tires on my 'winter' aka old vehicle, or buy snow tires.

Default 4 wheel drive may help you get going in the snow but it doesn't help you stop...

So if your thinking you can cheat because of Quattro, don't. Get the right tires on or park it. I learned that with a 4x4 truck I had in Utah.

Default Thanks for the responses (and no surprises). I expected bad news....

Unfortunately, I won't be able to have the M2s mounted for another couple weeks so I may have to take Jill's car until then (it's OK, I'm allowed and she has a State car anyway).

Quick Reply: Looks like I'm gonna get caught with S-03s in the snow......
