Default Love the Tire Rack!

One week of driving on Seattle's atrocious streets, and *bang!* I smack my brand-new Conti front right, hard enough that the rim cuts the bead area. Rim looks okay. (If it had been last week on my old RS4's, I'm not sure the rim would have survived.)

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/51356/sidewall_cut.jpg">

I call Tire Rack, expecting to pony up for a new tire. But they tell me Continental has a one-year road hazard warranty. So the Tire Rack is shipping a new tire today, and it'll be forgotten by next month. Yay, Tire Rack! Thank you, Continental.

What do you guys with 35-series tires drive on for roads, velvet billiard tables? If I didn't love this car so much with the 18's I'd go to 17's just to lose the anxiety. Wait. I drive a TT. I must like anxiety.

Ah, Seattle. Gotta go; I'm late for a visit to our new $85 million waterfront sculpture park. Hope I don't trash another tire on a waterfront pothole getting there...

Default I run slightly oversize on my 18s, 235/40s instead of 225/40s.

Gives a bit more sidewall height with minimal effect on speedometer.

I run 245/35, never had an issue. Guess I am lucky?

Default Any tire can be damaged by a pothole and a pothole can bend any wheel.

I have 235/40 x18 XL on my TT 40psi front and 37psi rear. Nevertheless, I endeavor to miss all potholes on my commute.

I personally would not buy 35 series tires, and I have used 225/45 x18 tires on my TT with good luck--no tire damage and no rim damage, but also no potholes hit with them either.

18's look cool but ride like crap here in the city. 17's ride so much better for me.

I've always avoided them, even with 55-series tires and 16's. This one was cloaked, I tell you!
