Milltek installed.... well, part of it, anyway!
As many know, I'm putting together a full turbo-back exhaust consisting of custom downpipe, Milltek Cats, and Milltek Cat-back. I'm still waiting for the cats, but I got antsy and decided to finally install the cat-back just to try it out before doing the other work. I had it installed here in Fremont, CA by Fremont Hitch, Weld and Muffler. Funky name, but the main guy there, Ron, does great work and is the only custom fabricator I've found who is willing to tackle my downpipe job. He's a "can-do" guy, and is actually looking forward to welding up my custom parts!

My first thought when I started the car after the install was "Where is the sound?" anyone worried that the car will be loud inside need not worry. There is only a little more sound inside the cabin with this setup then with stock... a bit more low rumble, but not much. Outside the car, the sound is more noticeable, but again, it has just a little more rumble. With both windows down at 6K RPM, yeah, then you'll hear some noise, but still nothing like those pesky ricers. Not one bit bumblebee. This is the resonated version... I'll be putting the non-resonated pipe on to try it as well... I think I'd like like a little more sports-car zoom inside. Stay tuned... I'll post my full impressions of the non-res pipe later.
As for performance, I immediately noticed a much smoother delivery of power, and found redline more quickly then usual. The engine seems SO much happier now that it can breathe. Shifts are smoother too, perhaps because rpm's and turbo are staying spooled a little longer. I can't wait the have the downpipe and cats now!
Some questions for MTT, Dave, Jeff-- apparently, there is only one center hangar, even though the pipe has a second hanger bolt that isn't used... I don't remember any posts on this. Does the 180Q have another hangar? Or is it for RHD cars in the UK? Also, I have the center leak you guys talked about. Pete is sending me the new style clamps and I'm assuming those will fix it, but what was that tape you used on yours to cure the problem? I may tape and clamp to be sure.
A pic of the unused hangar bolt (before alignment and tightening):

I got the new style clamps from Strat....
very large and used one on install on Ellen's TTR...to use on a system already installed you must de install since clamps can not be spread apart to slip over pipe. Concerning 'leak' I wrap the two connection points of the center pipe to the cat-back pipe with high temp metal tape and then apply clamps...no leaks on either of our TTs with the Miltek exhausts...we both went to the Dyno Day event so did highway cruising (about 50 minutes each way) and check connection points and still tight and not leaking.
