Default Believe it or not...

It's a telescope!
2.5m diameter mirror. The square box-looking
thing is a wind-baffle that tracks across the
sky completely independently of the telesopce
contained within it.

The open "flower petals" are a flatfield screen
which we close to shine internal lights on to
get spectra (intensity vs. wavelength) of known
sources through our instruments.
