My new exhaust is possessed!...
Something weird is happening to my car. When I go out to my car in the morning, the first thing I see as I round my wife's car is the brand new Forge exhaust on the back of my TT. It looks great, but something happens after I drive it! Whenever I pull into the garage, and the exhaust is obviously hot, the left tip is sticking out farther than the right tip! The next morning, everything is back to normal. Should I call a priest or what?

Typical expansion of metal with heat. Totally normal although both tips on mine stick out....
equally far after driving. Are you sure yours are balanced (same distance out) before driving? SS seems to expand more than the stuff that the OEM exhaust is made of, BTW, so I think it's more noticable. However, the OEM exhaust grows too.

you've been attacked by the ever growing stainless steel demons :P
After I installed my new SS exhaust - I also noticed that it would stick out farther after I drove the car and would then be back to "normal" after it had cooled off. Since I'd never owned a SS exhaust before, I had no idea that it expands when hot. That's all that is happening.

The Forge is a little tricky to get aligned.....>>>
I had to slide the left rear hanger in toward the cars center (it is adjustable) and rotate the mid pipe to get equal alignment on both sides. They're now the same either hot or cold. Thermal expansion is normal and since the midpipe (which probably expands the most) is on the left, it is logical to assume that the left would push out more. Do some careful alignment cold and it'll be unnoticeable.

I saw on a TV show about Fighter Jets that the SR72 Blackbird expands during flight and the actual
jet engines can extend an additional 10-25" inches out the back.
I am sure someone here in the Forum knows the exact measurements that were recorded....
I always thought that was very strange....

Heh heh . . . . SR71. . . you were one off. . . .
Originally was RS71 but some executive screwed it up in a press release so they just changed the name of the whole project. =) Corporate logic. If you're interested, there's a great book on the development of the F117 and SR71 called Skunk Works. All sorts of cool facts. Peace
