Need help on serpentine belt tensioner install.
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/109968/serpentine_tensioner.jpg"></center><p>I'm in the garage right now getting my macbook all greasy typing this.
I'm under the car, looking up at the tensioner, its pretty far up there, how do I even start this process...
I don't have ANYTHING to go on except the picture above, so I'm totally lost... totally.
There has to be a write up for this somewhere, that I just haven't found... right...

Help...
Use the wrench as shown to release the tension on the belt.
There is a small hole that you can slip a nail into to lock the tensioner with its spring compressed. (look at you new one to see the hole. It has a pin in it. DON'T REMOVE THE PIN IN THE NEW ONE!)
Remove the serpentine belt.
Remove the old tensioner.
Install the new tensioner.
Install the new belt.
Put the wrench back on the tensioner to relieve the pressure on the pin and then slowly release the tensioner onto the belt.
Drink beer.

I understand this part...
"Drink beer."
So far that's all I've been able to figure out.
Haha, actually that helps a ton. Do you get at the tensioner from under the hood or under the car?
Thanks a lot for the help

Access tensioner from the top..................
Not the best pic I've taken, but the tensioner is under the hard charge pipe, close to the hose connection.
I used a 17mm open end wrench on the tensioner. Pull back toward you.

DONE! took me about 45 minutes...
Fixed the problem, the car is WHISPER quiet when the AC is on at idle now.
WOW, you guys have no idea how incredibly grateful I am for all the help!
This problem has plagued my car since I bought it, it started to get downright EMBARASSING when I was in drivethroughs/talking to friends at a stop...
GEEZE, what a freaking releif.
Thanks Schwing, dumpttruck, clarkSJ, and Furiousgeorge.
You all pwn!

Sounded like an exhaust rattle with AC on?
Same problem here, fixed with changing tensioner. Also discovered that same part bought at VW dealer is about 1/2 price of Audi...
