Oil Analysis Part II

As some of you may recall, I was running a little experiment in oil changes. I ran an oil analysis (see url) and then put in a Canton Racing filter. The filter seems to be working better than stock but I had problems with excess gas in the oil.
The folks doing the analysis got rather excited as the amount of gas was pretty high. They suggested I get the car in quick and get it fixed. I went to one of the local dealerships and, after checking in, one of the 'coordinators' stopped by and claimed 5% gas content in the oil was "normal". They were going to just send me home. I started to make a fuss and they decided to have a tech hook up a VAG and download the codes. Turns out the MAF was bad -- no CEL however.
Anyway, looks like the Canton filter looks like the real deal. I replaced the Mobil 1 with Redline 5W-30 in the last change and will post the next analysis around 50,000 miles.

https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/898636.phtml</a

I just got the Blackstone kit in the mail . . .
I think I will test my Mobil 1 at the next oil change (5,000) miles. I got the test to check the oil in my 98 Camry, 105,000 miles and changed every 7,000 miles by the dealer. They have had sludge problems so I thought I would see what the test indicates.
With the TT, I figured that with Mobil 1 at 5,000 miles I would be more than safe, but now you've got me wondering.

My original intent
I have always found oil filter quality to be suspect. So, I was interested in upgrading my filter. I thought UOA was a good way to evaluate whether the new one was helping, hurting or making no difference. I was surprised when the Mobil 1 was running out of steam at 8K miles in my first test. I think the issue is that the 1.8T is a tough environment so it doesn't hurt to take a peek at what is happening occasionally.

You know, I've had a fair number of graduate level statistics and research methodology classes . . .
but I'm certainly not going dust off the books to understand my oil analysis. But, if you have a macro set up in SPSS, let me know : )

I was orignally hoping to go 10,000 miles with Mobil 1 . . .
but was warned away from that by forum members. Your findings seem to support that. I am going to check out the Carlton filter too. Thanks.

Well I hope your wondering is just that and you don't loose any sleep over one test result.
