Default Oil Temp Warning for a few seconds on cold start?...

OK... so finally, at last... some cooler weather came to Houston this morning. With the cold weather returned my Oil Temp warning light issue.

When I start the car when the outside temp is 40F or below I get the standard display shreak followed by the red oil temp graphic. After about 15 seconds it goes out.

The dealership couldnt figure this out last winter and asked if they could keep the car overnight to test.

Any suggestions before I leave the car with them?

Thanks

Default That's coolant temp (I think) and is a known problem. (update)

Is it the thermometer with the wavy lines? If you press the small diagnostic button on the left (not the trip odometer reset button, the one you use the set the clock). Anyway, press that in and it probably says something like turn off engine and check coolant level. There's a known problem with the coolant overflow tank fluid level sensor. Ask for a new sensor (which comes as part of the overflow tank) and you should be all set. This is a problem with older 1.8Ts, not specifically TTs.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=652091</a

Default Having the same problem. refilled.....

I wonder waht coefficient of expansion is for this antifreeze? It ain't just ethylene glycol is it? If so, I wonder if there's some shrink/swell (nukes love that phrase) going on due to the temperature variations.

I'd changed all my coolant about 60d back, and started getting the alarm. I thought it was a bubble, or improper venting. Told service writer two days ago that this is the last time we top it off.
