Default Used it for Falling Water trip. Super excellent. Picked up

every band. Also was picking it up at same time if not sooner in some cases than the Valentine One. LOL, when you get Laser, you really know it...the puppy screamed.

Default Valentine One saved my bacon thrice on way home from FW.

I guess PA troopers don't have the same budget as Maryland. In Maryland all of the troopers are using KA band. On our way home using interstate 76, the Valentine One kept going off in the K band. I was tempted to ignore the warning since it was 'only' K band. Fortunately I didn't since every time it was a trooper hiding out.

We had some close calls. One laser and an "instant on" -- very lucky.

Denny - Is your detector "hot wired" into the car..or does it plug into the lighter? Thanks...

Default the 8500 is fantastic -- of course, the way the md/dc/va tt'rs went...

there was little need for it (we got very few hits and no laser). we also had at least one valentine 1.

i've got mine hard wired.

Default You can hard wire it, but I prefer to plug it in. That way you can use

it on other vehicles, etc.

Default I've had my 8500 for as almost a month now and love it!!!! No hardwire....

I don't mind plugging it in. This is my first radar detector and it has definately saved me a few times.

Default Denny, how did the 8500 interpret the Orange Message Signs

You know, the ones with the text they change? It usually has a generator on it to power it. I found that in PA they had K-band radar attached to them. In some cases they posted my speed as well (how thoughtful).

My V1 picked these up as cops in every case. I assume the 8500 did the same?

How does the 8500 do interpretted grocery stores? Does it bleep at you every time you go by (buy) or does it filter those out? The V1 does not filter them out near my house. I'm just curious how these two compare.

I still haven't bought a second detector for my Volvo, but seeing that I can see 2-5 police cars on my way to work now (6:30am) I figure I need to get protection for the Volvo as well. Getting a V1 would be consistent, but I'm tempted to do a comparison between the two (one in each car).
