A couple of years back, I bought what was then the top-of-the line Harman Kardon AV receiver. I got a relatively good price by purchasing it on UBID as a refurbished unit. I think it had something like a 90 day warranty on it.

Relatively minor problems developed which I ignored, as they were tolerable and it would be a royal pain removing the receiver from the storage unit. Recently, those problems have worstened substantially, but the receiver is well out of warranty.

I saw that H/K was selling refurb receivers on Ebay (a newer model), and I e-mailed them and asked if they could cut me a deal due to past problems. They wrote back that they were out of the receivers in question. However, they would authorize complete repair of all parts and labor on my receiver even though it is out of warranty.

Just thought I'd share this. They obviously didn't have to offer to repair my receiver, but I'm glad they did. There are a lot of companies that could learn from this example, and it reinforces my decision to purchase Harman Kardon products.
