I put in this system in our Odyssey

Got this 7" LCD panel w/ built in speakers and a TV tuner. I mounted this thing on the head rest using a similar setup as the camcorder mounts that I built using aluminum tubing.

I got the display off of ebay for $250. It has some good features. The speakers are good, has Composite and S-video for external video and a coxial connection that can work with cable tv signals. It even inverts the image if the unit itself is inverted. It comes w/ a cig adapter as well as a regular adapter that plugs into the wall. Also has a TV antennae.
Close up of the unit

Really happy with the unit. I also bought a FM modulator from Radio Shack called iRock. The company also makes MP3 players. It works OK - not perfect.
here is the link to the auction. I think the guy is selling more.
I then bought a portable DVD player as the video source.
When we are not using the system, we just take the head rest out and use the one from the 3rd row bench that we never use anyway. I didn't alter the interior at all.

LCD Display

Thanks. is the FM modulator hard wired??
LCD looks good. the kids have mostly VHS so I will go with that. So you plug both units into the cig lighters and just run video to the lcd right??

You know my MobilePC unit....
similar if not same screen. I run diversity antennas in the window- no rabbit ears. The FM modulation is cabled, but universal. Right now though I am using Jeff's aux input. I run the MobilePC on Input 1, PS2 on Input 2, and a VCR on Input 3. All devices are installed using a taped 12V from the fuse box.

http://public.fotki.com/hackths/cars/tt/</a

The FM modulator is NOT hard wired. It plugs into a headset port.
I do believe that hard wired systems have better and consistent sound quality. For us, the speakers have been good enough so far.
We usually run the DVD player off of the battery, but can plug both into the cig lighter. I had to buy an adapter that plugs into the cig lighter and offers a conventional wall-like plug.

Thanks, I bought the screen from ebay and found a local guy
with a sony VCP new for $60. I will try the speakers first and then go with the FM modulater if I want to. Not bad a mobile video system with a 7" screen for $320!!

I'm gonna mount the screen on a gooseneck mount that bolts to the seat bolt
and then just plug in the LCD and the VCP into the cig lighter. I have like 3 extra aux cig lighters in the suburban. Install should take 15 minutes for the whole thing. Doesnt the hardwired FM modulater get plugged into the headunit to the fm antenna jack??
