What do you want out of a motorcycle, ie.. speed, looks, handling etc...I have had many motorcycles but the BMW's have always been my favorites for all around use. I prefer the GS.

I want a good...
commuter bike that also has looks. I'm not terribly worried about performance, as I can't imagine a motorcyle that's not 'fast.'
It's amazing how many people in Denver ride motorbikes (and equally amazing how few wear helmets!). I don't think I want what looks like a racing bike, but I don't want a 'Hell's Angels' bike either.
The 1200C is a gorgeous 'cruiser' sort of bike, the 1150GS is a good-looking, well-featured street bike with some (limited) off-road capabilities.
I wish there was a bike that had looks somewhere in-between racer and cruiser.

I have been...
riding for almost a year now. Your mental attitude has alot to do with your chances of dying on a bike. I ride with the mindset that everyone else is trying to kill me...and I am thinking about 7 steps ahead of everyone around me all of the time. I enjoy it as sort of a mental game in that respect. If you don't decide to wear a helmet, I suppose that ups your chances as well. Are you a risk-taker kinda person? I waited until I was 27 to buy my first bike and I understand why my parents never wanted me to have one back when I was younger... I wear leathers from head to toe and only ride when I feel the conditions are right. Take the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) rider course, read books (I read two), talk to bikers, it IS possible to ride without killing yourself. Keep yourself in check, watch out for bad drivers and you should have no problem.

You can't go wrong with any BMW bike... suit up and sit on the thing before you buy...once you take your first ride on a blue sky summer day you will be spending alot of time in that seat

If this is your first bike you might consider a Suzuki SV650. (it might be the look you are after) If you want to carry a passenger (not recommended until you have at least 1000 miles solo riding under your belt, again if you are a "beginner") you will need at least 600 cc's to be safe in terms of merging with traffic and passing.
Other choices: Buell, Ducati Monster, etc..

I like the R1150GS, Look at Aprillia Faclo, SL1000v & Millie, Ducati ST4, M900, SS900, 748s, and if
...you can spend more the MV F4 Strada I guess you are a Euro guy but the Honda VFR 800 is a wonderful choice. I did not mention some of the sportier bikes but am thinking you want a sport / tourer (the F4 really doesn't belong but it is nice). If you approach motorcycling like your are flying an airplane and take it that seriously I doubt you will die on a bike. JIM
