Default OT: Trace your ancestry...

<center><img src="http://home.san.rr.com/winefinds/bremen01.jpg"></center><p>As many of you know, we are a nation of immigrants. To put it scientifically, a
sh!TTload of immigrants passed through Ellis Island in the early 1900s in search of a better life.

Now there is a site where you might be able to find info on some of your ancestors as they arrived from the "old country". I was able to not only find info on my Grandfather who arrived from Greece, but I was even able to get a photo of the ship that he arrived on (shown) well as a passenger manifest.

Anyway, I think it's interesting stuff, but I'm easily amused. Speaking of easily amused, if you're bored, do a passenger search of someone with the dirtiest name you can think of, and chances are there was an immigrant with that last name. Undoubtedly, most of those names have been since modified. There was actually an "Ah Fu@k" who arrived from China in 1893!

Default My relatives came over a little earlier than that, but I did find one W.Bradstreet

Thanks for the link. My father is very interested in geneology. I forwarded this link on to him in case he wasn't aware of it.

Some of the fun facts my father pointed out to me once...

Symond Bradstreet and his brother came over on one of the first ships (maybe not THE Mayflower, but very close, I can't remember). Symond became the third governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They centered around Rowley (and Danvers), Massachusetts. In Rowley, there is a farm that is supposedly the oldest, working farm in the country to be owned continuously by one family. (I once went to a Bradstreet reunion in Rowley. We counted around 80 people there. That same day, a different branch of the Bradstreet family had a reunion in Danvers! They had around 80 people show up as well!)

A 'few' years later, John Bradstreet was in law enforcement in Salem, MA. He was the guy who had to sign the execution notices for all them witches we had runnin' about. Well, eventually he thought it was kind of a crazy thing to be doing and protested. That's when they gave him 24 hours to get out of town before they burned him at the stake for siding with them witches. Where did John Bradstreet go? Well, he chose to go to Maine!

After the Civil War (or was it the Rev. War?), two other Bradstreets I'm related to were from the Boston, MA area. They were paid for their service in land. They purchased land in Bridgton, Maine... that's the town my parents decided to build their retirement home in.

Default Thanks for sharing this !! Much to my shock I found my grandfather !!! He (and all my grandparents)

have been gone since I was a baby .. (plus my dad and mom) .. this might give me some links back to my history/story of my family !!! Really a cool thing! It took just a few seconds and I never really imagined his (unusual) name would pop up !! He was just 22 and a member of the ships (Cristobal) crew !

Well, I've probably got you beat on my Dad's side. His father is 100% native American Indian. Chiricahua Apache, which is the tribe that Geronimo and Cochise came from. Willis is the last name of my Grandmother's 2nd husband. My blood last name is an indian name.

On his mother's side were Cooper (English) and McCurley (Irish), and perhaps they were on the ship with the Bradstreet's.

My mother's side (Greek) are the most recent relatives to arrive. What an interesting mix we all are!
