Default OT: what kind of car should I buy?

Well my crappy little toyota was done in the other day and I need to get a new car. Unfortunately I wouldn't be quite comfortable with the payments that come along with a TT just yet(Hopefully in a year or so). Any suggestions on what kind of car I might want to look into?
knuckles

Default What is your budget?

Maybe look at an A4, or a used 98 or 99 A4?
The new celica is "interesting" but not really worth it unless you get the bigger engine/six speed. The new eclipse is also "interesting", but unfortunatly no all wheel drive is offered YET.

Do you need/want quattro?
Do you need to haul lots of stuff/people around?
-Jenner

Default Yeah, or Jetta/GTI/Golf...

...pretty good build quality from what I saw, and if one doesn't go insane on the options I think ones with 1.8T's can come out to a good bit under $20k.
A4 1.8TQMS Ebony/Onyx

Default I'm looking at around $20,000 to $25,000

All wheel drive is not a necessity for me. I don't really haul much around. I really just want a nice car for the money.
knuckles

Sporty? Miata and/or Toyota MR2 are very good choices.

If by "nice," you mean a good performing car, I'd consider the new MR2 and, label or not, the Miata.

Default @$20K how about PT Cruiser ?(if you can find one @MSRP)

Around here they get ALMOST as many looks/comments as a TT. Other advantages:
you don't have the agonizing choices of FWD/Quattro, coupe/roadster, 180/225 HP or baseball glove interior option. No PT recalls for suspension mods yet.
I'm betting resale will be much better than other DC small products (eg: Neon), so you might get most of your cash back when you step up to a TT.
Hey, it's a little bit German.

Default The 1.8T Jetta is FAST!Test drove one the other day, only 150hp stock, but 200hp for about than $1000

Simple chip and exhaust will give close to 200hp, and also remember the Jetta is lighter than the A4 and TT, and is also only driving two wheels. In dry conditions the 1.8T Jetta with a chip and exhaust will toast a stock A4, and give a stock TT a hard run for it's money!
-Jenner
