Default overheating side view mirrors?

I was driving along the other (very early) and thought my drivers side view mirror looked a little foggy. When I touched it it was very hot. Not a little warm but almost burnt my fingers. Now, I know that they are heated for ice/etc but on a 72 degree day?

Anyone else seen this?

Wow! Is it electrical or just based on airflow from the engine?

Default Check the A4 FAQs...

There have been many notes about this.

In essence, the mirrors are heated whenever the car is on. Now in the past year or so, they've changed to a thermostatically controlled heater on the mirrors, but they are NOT to replace the mirrors unless they are broken.

For more on this see Audi technical bulletin 99-02.

Audi Technical Bulletin 99-02: Exterior Rear-view Mirror, Function Change

Default Here's another heated mirror reference (though the dates would seem to preclude TTs...)
