Pilot Sport A/S's snow review
In case anyone is considering these for the winter, now I've had close to a thousand miles of snow, ice and slush driving with the Pilot Sport A/S's. My verdict is that these are some great winter tires!
I live near DC, so we have a back-and-forth winter, going from snow one week to dry and warm the next. The PSAS's are great handling in the dry, though they have less road feel than summer tires. They hold a line well and turn in pretty quickly, but do feel a little greasy compared to regular PS's. But when it gets messy...
Snow?
Snow.
Snow!
OBOY!!!!
That's what I say in the morning now when I see the white stuff coming down. The reason is that I get to play rally car driver for the first fifteen miles or so of my commute which is made up of very twisty single-laners with basically no traffic. I'm often the first tire tracks in the morning.
Generally, the car stays perfectly in line, even driven on unplowed roads with 2"+ of powder on them. Corners that I normally take around 45-50 (generally marked 20-30MPH) can be taken around 30-35 without drama. The same corners can be taken with controlled drama by dialing in the amount of drift desired with throttle. I've gotten to a good 30 degrees of yaw or so (passenger A pillar is "front") on many corners with no degradation in the feeling of control and ability to correct line. I'm not saying that it's like driving in the dry, but that things always feel controlled and I can change lines in the corner.
The car can be easily brought back to line in a measured way by backing off throttle. The predictability of the car changes winter driving from nerve-wracking to extremely fun.
Slush and black ice are less fun, especially with lots of standing water on top, but even in these conditions the car does very well.

Very interested
I work in Rockville and live in Shepherdstown (near Harper's Ferry.) I'd be up for a monthly get together and would love to do some group drives around the MD/WV backroads...

There already exists the informal TT group >>>
informal in the sense that we have a single email group for the Va/Md/DC/Pa area and we use it schedule GTG etc. We have had several gatherings for social and tech type stuff at my house in Reston, trips to Annapolis, gatherings in MD etc...
