possible clutch problem

Hi all, I just bought a used 2001 TT and I suspect that there's a problem with the clutch. One out of five times when i shift from 1st to 2nd gear, I will hear a loud grinding noise coming from the transmission, I can often duplicate this problem by:
1. drive pass 3000 rpm on 1st gear then shift into 2nd.
2. shift fairly quickly
This sound is gone right after i shift into gear but it is enough to give me a heartache that last a long time. Is this a known problem for Audi gear box? Thanks.

sounds like syncros!

the "grinding" between shifts is usually a sign of your syncros going bad. How many miles on your car? is it a 225? coupe or roadster?

Drain your tranny fluid and...

replace with Redline MT-90. Sounds like metal shavings from break-in and bad shifts. That should do it. If it was the syncros it would happen at each shift in those gears.
