Default Powergasket Plus or Evo heatsheild

i know powergasket fixed the problem they had with a few of them melting (and those cars had crazy hp)so my question is why go with the evo? is twice as much and seems like more of a PITA to install than the powergasket plus. i mean why the hell do we have to port match the gaskets? doesnt make sense to me...they should already come matched. any info would be nice

Default Your game...>>

Who gave you the information you HAVE to port match gaskets? It's a desirable thing to do but not essential, It's NOT done by the factory BTW. Why not improve things when you have the opportunity? Has nothing to do with the Evo . The powergasket was melting on Normally chipped cars, not only high HP models. Phenolic is forever (I sold a 4 year old one for $50...Try that with a Powergasket) Phenolic has also has been used for years in this and other high heat insulating applications. If you want to cheap out and put a POS in there go ahead, but I wouldn't...

Default well i wanted feedback

so thats why i worded it the way i did (seems i get faster responses if someone disagrees)

i never go cheap with anything that is on my car...i just wanted to know the big differences.
no way in hell i would put something that might melt on my intake manifold. but why do the gaskets that go between the spacer need to be matched by dremeling? is it a must?

Default Its not the gaskets you are machining...its the intake manifold and the head

if you pull your intake manifold off you'l see the gasket holes are bigger than the insde holes on the intake manifold...same goes for the head.
Dremel em out and you get a little more flow/less restriction

Default The gaskets fit just the way your stock one does now..(pics updated)>>

Since OEM gaskets are used with the Evo. As I said, it's an opportunity to improve things, not something you must do. Just be aware that you have a mismatched "Step" now. Dremeling to match eliminates this and takes no time at all..

Sloppy OEM gasket match:

After dremeling. YOu want the manifold a tad smaller than the opening in the head so you don't get turbulence

Default thanks for clearing that up

thanks a lot i totally understand now. as you can tell i was confused when people were saying they dremeled the gaskets not the head or intake mani....makes sense...and yes i have taken my intake manifold off to replace a pcv valve and i guess i didnt notice the gaskets were a tiny bit bigger

Default cool. kinda scary though

i mean i dont think i have a vaccum to get the metal shavings out...any ideas? also you aren't really dremeling the whole(runners) inside of the intake manifold are you?

Default No problem...>>

Stick a piece of hose in your vac nozzle so you can get the small stuff. Put oiled rags in the ports to grab/collect the shavings. It's really just dust after dremeling anyway. Just the outer edge on the runners was dremeled. My intake was Extrude honed..
