Default Problems At StartUp

Is anyone else experiencing problems at start up? After my car sits over night, the first time I start it, it goes to its start idle rpm and then drops below 800 rpms. Then it either faulters and stops, or it goes back up to idle. Any ideas?

Default Mine has done this on and off since I got her. I can't identify a pattern...

and I have had the dealer check things. Sometimes it's unfortunate they can't check the choke or other manual parts anymore. It's all in the engine management computer.

My car sits outside under my carport. It is always very humid outside my house since the lot is heavily wooded and on water. I suspected the humidity, but then it happened on the occasional cold and dry morning, too.

Condensation in the motor that bunrs off after a few cycles of combustion? Engine drag from the A/C kicking the blower on high on warm and humid mornings?

I know there are some well informed folks here that have more solid insight than me!
Ivan

Default Re: Problems At StartUp

I've seen this problem in several cars.

Considering that the TT has rather modern electronics, I don't know if this would solve it, but what I used to do is move the key to on and wait about 10-15 seconds before starting.

On other cars, it seemed that some sensors needed to do some mechanical adjustments to mixture before starting or else it go confused.

Just my thoughts, I'm still waiting on my AG 225.

Default Kinda the same thing....

My car will rev up but it isn't consistantly in one spot. The will rev a few hundred rpm up and down. This holds true when it is at idle when it is constantly going from 900rpm to 700rpm. I haven't chipped it yet so it couldn't be that.

Anyone experience the startup to be a bit longer on somedays and shorter on others? My old honda started up the same every morning for its 15 year life. Perhaps a different kind of engine(carb vs inj.)?
JasonC

Default Same with other Audi/VW types

I had a GTI and have an A4 that does the same, when cold. It's the idle control valve. On the A4, it only does it when is cold, under 25 degrees, and then goes away after warming.
