quattro!...
En route to today's long drive (see below), I saw a long deserted road outside of Poway, that ran parallel to Scripps/Poway Parkway. It looked like a great road to haul *** down, and that's exactly what I did. At the end of the road was a cul-de-sac covered with dirt and gravel.
So I figured I'd do a psuedo-skidpad test, as I knew the traction would be aweful. I started off slowly and gradually increased speed. The traction was just unbelievable! I know that the quattro system was sending power back and forth from the front wheels to the rear, even though I couldn't feel this happening.
I was just amazed at the traction and control that I had while whipping in a circle through this gravel-covered cul-de-sac. There are those who say that the Haldex quattro system is inferior, but unlike the Torsen system, Haldex can deliver 100% traction to front or rear wheels, versus Torsen which can not do better than 80% power to either axle.
Today's little exercise gave me a better appreciation for what the quattro system can do. I know that my FWD would not have been able to track in the way that my 225q roadster did this afternoon.

What I like about driving on the loose......
is how you can get the power down all the time. It tends to oversteer with both power on AND under braking. I love it. I just wish my 70s rally cars had handling this good.
I'm going to be interested to feel the difference when I go to coilovers (if I EVER get my car back). Two weeks of waiting today.
ChrisTTopher Lloyd

Gravel road....Austin area (more)
On Christmas Day, my brother and I found a great curvy gravel road near his Austin home. We tried and tried and TRIED to make my 180Q skid and/or slide and just couldn't. He was a bit of a skeptic about Audi's "Quattro" system until that day...but no more! And from my perspective, I feel MUCH more comfortable with what my TT will do should I end up in a difficult situation someday.
