Question

would a 3" catback limit performance on a chipped, yet otherwise stock car--as opposed to a 2.5"?

Backpressure and matching exhaust size to the engine are not really factors on a turbo charged car.

Nah. Should increase performance. Are you worried about losing too much "backpressure"?

Yes, and subsequently loosing lower end torque.

As far as I know, turbos dont need back preassure. Then again I could be very very wrong.

I ran open 3" downpipe for a day or so and the car gained a lot.

Thanks, I was told by a guy at the shop that it might decrease bottom end ever so slightly.

Curious where all this confidence about no need for back pressure was when the oringal

discussions about 2.5" vs. 3" downpipe was being discussed long ago...
