A question regarding air filters & MAFs for Mr. Modshack or any other nice guys>>
Your all nice guys though.
I'm sorry I hate to be a pain.
Since I've read prior threads saying that cold air intakes make your car loose power. I was wondering if this is because they seperate the filter from the MAF element further?
My idea was to get a 90 degree elbow and extend the filter towards the front of the car and build a heat shield for it as well. This would keep the MAF & filter connected to each other. The increase in space would occur between the samco intake & the maf unit. (I need a **** as well)

Thank you everyone. Sorry about the length. I'm loosing my mind after a Klasse paint cleaner, Sonus buffed in polish, and tomorrow I plan to wash again and follow with a coat or two of P21s wax wooo hooooo winter protection enabled.

a quick response...
the air filter element you have pictured.. takes air from around it... and all you have around that filter is hot air.. so the car is getting hot air thru the intake system.. Turbocharged cars don't like hot air at all.. this converting into less power....
If you got a TTDA or a VTDA.... this can eliminate some of the hot air issues.. because the filter is insulated from the underhood heat... and it draws air from outside the engine compartment.... meaning it's cooler.... with equates into more power...
hope this helps

CdnTT is right... it's about intake air temp, not distance bewteen MAF and filter
you want to insulate the filter and the air it gets as much as possible from the hot air in the engine bay. Your setup sucks air that's been preheated by the engine. TTDAs pull air through external hoses (see MOBlueTT's pic below). VTDAs don't necessarily come with the fresh air feeds, but do suck air from around the area that held the OEM snorkel--which is fed through the driver's side fender. And both intakes are insulated so they don't heat up as much from the engine bay.
