Default RE: Windshield Rockchip

Have my TT for a month now. Got a rockchip in the windshield today.Ouch! Ruined a really nice day. Anybody have any luck with repairing this kind of injury?

Default Funny you should ask...

Had the same thing happen a couple of days ago. Took it to the dealer (SoCal) and they called in one of those mobile windshield repair guys. They did a great job-there's a little opacity in the windshield but it looks like a dried water spot. Only cost $55-way better than the $600 or so for a replacement!

Default from what I understand windshields are hard to come by in the TT

so that is $600 IF you can get one. I never knew you could fix a windshield :-)

Default Have the chip sealed quickly. Ours was smaller than a pinhead, yet ran in less than 12 hours.

Replacement cost = $400

Plus $700 worth of paint damage to roof and hood by boneheads doing the install....they paid for paint repair.

Default Just use a windshield repair kit...

These are inexpensive and easy to use. I've used them on my pickup. The rock chip (six months old) on the TT I have just left alone, as it is quarter inch or less. No one notices, but me, and learning to live with some imperfections has been a good thing.
