Default Recommendations on racing & education?

Hi,

I'm interested in both improving my skill as a driver and in the fun of racing. I would _love_ your advice on the best way to accomplish the following goals:

1) Any recommendation on 1/2 day driver schools in the SF Bay Area?
2) I'm not really interested in racing other humans - just improving my control and cutting my times.
3) Either autocross or banked race tracks sound interesting.
4) I'm not too interested in ego battles with others about scores. Just a good group and an environment to learn.

I am a novice, i.e. I think I'm a good driver, but I've never had any professional training or race experience.

I'll happily report back after some classwork!

Clarification: by 1/2 day driver school I mean: one or two day - not half day.

Default I would try some auto-X out.. I tried it about 3 weeks ago and now am hooked..

It definitly improves your driving skills and shows you how good or bad you really are..

If you are willing to go a bit out of the bay area and do it for 3 days, I highly recommend one of the Bondurant classes in Phoenix AZ. I took the high performance driving in Feb. and it was so much fun and a super driving education for me a novice driver. I highly recommend both this school and to learn how to drive in some else's car.

They may have me a bit hooked, was back in Phoenix today, Bondurant had a set of 2 hour sessions lapping open wheel Formula Fords at Phoenix International Raceway this week. Drives a lot different than my TT, but every lap gave me a better understanding of the dynamics of an automobile. And more rocking fun!

Bondurant's school
