Replace front axle
I bought a 2000 TT recently and am moving through mechanical checkout and bringing maintenance up to date. One thing I have noticed in adverts for TT's is "front axle replaced". What goes bad and how would I diagnose the problem? Not seeing threads about this but maybe I missed something.

The noise they make is the CV Joints failing. I did learn a lesson on mine and be sure to buy the OEM half shafts. The shop I used to replace the right-hand drive shaft used a non-OEM and there was a vibration. I believe the OEMs are thicker in diameter with a hollow core and the non-OEM are smaller in diameter and solid.

Get the car on jack stands and inspect the boots on both sides. See if there are punctures or grease leaks. They are not hard to replace; however, you do need a special star/torque socket. I think it's like 30 bucks.
