Default Retrofitting a 225 exhaust to a 180 with single exhaust...

Has anyone tried to do that and if so does it really work?

I have heard mixed answers about this saying that the fittings are different others saying that it's pretty easy to adapt and all you need is update the rear valence...

What is you take on this?

Thank you for letting me know!

It is indeed a quattro...

Do you know what is required to make the switch?

Also, the exhaust is from a 2001 225, what would be a good price to pay for that?

Default I have to ask WHY??? The 180 pipe is 2.25-inch where the 225 is 2.5-inch...>>

as far as the muffler, the quattro cars should be close. Also, there is a crimp just before the muffler on the 180Q

Good luck.

Default I did this on my 180Q>>

Couple of things...

the 225 exhaust I got was from a later 225, and there was a change in the hanger placement. On the middle section on my 180 the hanger was in front of the haldex, and IIRC, the 225 exhaust's hanger was aft of the haldex.

So, I had to cut the hanger off and re-weld to the proper place. This I'd say the the single biggest obstacle for the DIY-er. Good news is that the exhaust can be hung using the hanger as is, temporarily, if you buy an extra rubber hanger from an auto parts store (it needs to be shorter than the one on there to keep the exhaust from hanging too low). I found such a rubber hanger at Advance Auto Parts.

As for the adapters, it is a little confusing, since our pipes are metric but the off-the-shelf adapters at the parts store are measured in inches. I just took both exhausts into the store and played around til I found something that was a tight fit. As I recall, I used a cheapo ($15) exhaust pipe expander to make one of the adapters fit. Then I bought some clamps which were really bad quality and didn't do the job too well, so I ended up not using them and just welding it all together once I got it aligned properly.

That said, if the 225 exhaust is free, or close to it, it's worth it, but, if I had it to do over, I'd just buy one of the many aftermarket dual-outlet systems designed for the 180Q and save myself a lot of time. After all, the 225 exhaust is just going to be an aesthetic upgrade only.

You definitely have a point here...

I would not mind getting a better sound and more horsepower out of the deal... ;o)

Would an aftermarket exhaust compromise the warranty?
