Review of Kumho 712s...

Some of you asked me to post some comments regarding the relatively new Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires once I had them mounted.
I've been driving on them for only a couple of weeks, but so far I really like them. They are a lot quieter than the Bridgestone RE730s that were just replaced, and they handle better in my view. The tires seem to grip better on extreme corners too.
They have a nice, aggressive tread pattern, and at only $101 per tire at Tire Rack, the price truly is unbeatable.
I went with the stock size of 225/45-17, and am satisfied with the choice. I know a few others have gone with a slightly meatier size, but I was concerned about clearance, as my car is pretty low.
Discount Tire/America's Tire will usually match Tire Rack's price, and they offer free rotations and mounting. So I generally prefer going this route. However, Discount Tire was unable to get me rubber for a month, as the tires were on backorder, so I went with Tire Rack.
I checked around to see what other tire dealers wanted to mount and balance Tire Rack's tires, and I thought the prices were a bit on the high side. Interestingly, Miramar Audi offered me the best price ($49), so I had the tires shipped directly there.
So I'm definitely liking these tires. I'm doing a practice autocross on 10/14, so it will be interesting to see how the Kumhos respond to some punishment.

Careful on your first run....
If you have not read or been advised, I have heard that contaminants from the mold make these tires very slippery when brand new. So if you have put less than 500 miles on them, be careful on your first run.
Have fun and pls post results.

I think this is typical of most tires.
I got about a third of the way around on my first hard turn on a set of Pirelli P7000's a while back!! It was kind of fun until I realized I was making a left in front of oncoming traffic.
