Default Rim size and wheel combo

Hi there guys, just want to know what is the max rim size and wheel combo I could put in my TT. I have a 2005 1.8 fwd. Thanks for your input.

Default well, how awful do you want it to look?

(from lowcountry's recent post)

generally, anything past 19x8.5 on 235/35 starts to get suspect. some will do 19x9.5 or 19x10 with 265/30 at the rear but it won't improve handling.

Default you know your car's too ghetto when...

...the rims are taller than the cabin

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking of getting 19x8.5 also but putting a 235 in the front and 265 in the back staggered. Would I have issues with this type of setup?

Default I doubt that it would look good unless you stagger the rims too >>

The biggest problem is getting the backspacing right.

I believe that the general consensus is that it hurts handling just a little going wider on the rear. Probably only if you track the car. On the road I doubt that you'd notice a difference. I personally hate understeer so would never go wider in the rear.

Default I'm running 225/40 and 265/35 on 18's....

And ran the car hard through the mountains at TT-West Durango and never had an issue with handling or excessive understeer. I'm sure that the propensity is there but in extreme public road use I didn't experience it. This is on 18x9 and 18x11 wheels.

Default in general, i'd avoid using the same width wheel with different width tires ...

aside from it just looking goofy, you'll end up with different slip angles front and rear which will hurt handling and make the car less predictable. if you really want to do 265, go with a 9.5" rim.

Default How much poke do you get? I was wondering who had wider rims...

I just got tires last night for my rims. Going to mount them today. I also got a wee bit smaller tires to stretch on for an oldschool euro look and a better fitment inside the fender to compensate for the poke i have. I did 205/35 on 18x8.5 and 245/35 on a 18x10.5.
