Default Saw a new 225 roadster for $28K!

Unfortunately it was while I was visiting a showroom in Germany. It was priced at 62,000 DM (about $28K). I began to wonder if Audi offers a service similar to Mercedes where you can by the car in the US, pick it up in Germany, use it for vacation, and then ship it home. It would be an interesting exercise to investigate the taxes and shipping charges of buying a TT over there that meets US standards. Although I get there often, I did not have the time luxary of investigating it in buying my own roadster.

Default Audi doesn't, Volvo, BMW do...you pay invoice and no haggling...

I just bought a BMW 525iT and was going to pick it up in Germany but didn't want to wait till October to get it shipped back (6-8 weeks after vacation). I checked out all the details for Volvo, BMW and Audi during my research.

Default You have to buy a US spec car and it has to be ...

shipped out of Europe within so much time or you are subject to the outrageous tax they pay. Not like the old days when it was "used" when shipping it back. The US got rid of excise tax on foreign cars back in 71 or so. You have to pay excise luxery tax directly to IRS. Mercedes,Porsche,BMW,Volvo and maybe SAAB still do it. Its a lot of fun but now most charge MSRP and throw in a couple nights hotel and free shipping home. Check out the MB or BMW websites for details.
