Default Service on a 2001 225/quattro coup with 40,000 miles

I'm new to this board, but I couldn't find an answer about servicing my 8 year-old TT with only 40,000 miles. I took the car to the dealer for an annual service and the dealer says I need the 80,000 mile service because the car is 8 years old which is going to cost about $2000 (or more). Do I really need the belts changed and the other major services if the car only has 40,000 miles?

Default definitely need all the belts changed, it's not only mileage but also age...

and an indy shop can do your belts and a tune up service (sparks, filters, etc) for probably 1300 at most.

Does the timing belt need to be replaced or just inspected? One dealer I called said it just needs to be inspected and that will be covered by AOA.

Default i replaced mine at around 5yrs or 34K-38K miles, IIRC.

the WP vanes were partially there. mostly cracked and half of them were missing. was a time bomb ready to go off.

Default i changed my TB/ water pump at 40K but 6.5 years, and...

The impeller disintegrated pulling out the Water pump, the belt however did look to be ok.
