Should I try to have my Instrument Cluster fixed (NOT replaced), or is it too risky?

Sounds like my door alarm buzzer has a bad soldering, and fuel gauge pointer needs adjustment (computer still works). My dealer said 870 EUR (~USD) + work to replace the whole cluster. Sounds unreasonable to me (Audi said no warranty, too old and self imported).
I'm wondering WHAT IF I removed the cluster myself, and took it to a professional electric engineer to be fixed? I could easily re-position the gauge pointer myself.
What else do I need to remove to access the cluster? Should I go for it, or is it too risky?
