Some chips a waste of money?...
Okay, let me qualify the statement. Here in California we have 91 octane premium available, which is usually about the max you'll get without going to racing fuel.
I have talked to a number of folks with 225 hp TTs here in CA and the general consensus seems to be that there is very little performance difference versus stock.
I've driven in chipped 180s, and the chip seems to make a substantial difference. However, in CA at least, the chips don't seem to do much for 225s.
Anyone want to confirm or deny this?

Well now mine is working again - it's substantial (for 225)
Speed will always be in the skill of the driver (knowing the road etc) as Ross can prove (he's only got suspension and is always quick). Quick enough to push a Carrera 2 on a drive up Angeles Crest.
Now that I have my car set up better (working) I am very happy and can for sure say that even with the 91 octane, a chipped 225 is more powerful than a stock 225.

Yes after reading so many reports.....
I am thinking if I should do this, I have an appointment to do the X chip tomorrow but I think I am going to cancell in light of all the problems being reported on this forum.
I have the APR chip on my A4 for 3 years and never had a problem.

FWIW, I was not happy with 91 octane APR program
Even though we have 93/94 gas here in GA, the program did not take advantage of it. It produced more power but had a steep curve that made drivability less than desired. The 93 program is very nice with a power curve slope similar to stock.
If I only had 91 octane available I would not chip a 225.

I can disagree here. I've had the APR 91oct for nearly 2 years before the 93 program...
the chip came after the exhaust, which IMHO, is a necessary add-on to a chip.
This combination gives you added hp, but also the much-needed added torque.
You will definitely notice a difference on the 225 with this combo.
Late last fall I got the 93 oct upgrade, as we do have abundance of 93 oct gas here.
This gave a good amount of added performance across the RPM range.
A definite improvement, but you need the base program to build on also.
One other thing: the Samco intake hose.
This is a must, I'm convinced.
I had been noticing boost bleed-off in the upper RPM ranges with the APR, and the 93 program.
I installed the Samco intake hose last weekend, and got an immediate lift and sustained boost in the upper RPM ranges in all gears.
Do the chip, exhaust, and the Samco, and you will definitely notice a difference.
