Some information on towing with a TT . . .
I am reading this from my 2000 Owners Manual:
1. Page 141: "The first 1,000 miles (1,500 km) - and afterwards." One of the bullets there states:
"If possible, avoid towing a trailer"
2. Page 152: "Trailer towing: Your Audi TT Coupe is not designed to tow a trailer.
Towing a trailer with your Audi TT Coupe is not recommended and can cause damage to the car. Damaged caused by towing a trailer is not covered by your Audi Warranty."
I typed it with the spelling mistakes and all. It will NOT void your warranty to install a trailer on your Audi TT Coupe. AoA will not pay for any damage that towing could cause. That is it, no voiding of warranties.
Since the Da'Lan hitch is a bolt on piece, you can always remove the hitch before going in for service if you are nervous, just like swapping the ECU, only a bit more work.

standard disclaimer (except some auto makers spell better) ...

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as you're conservative. many small car manuals say that it's not recommended to tow, and it's pretty obvious why, but as long as you're not towing too much too often, it should be OK.
I've towed an 18' boat with my Miata, so I guess the Audi should be able to handle similar (and usually lighter) loads on an occasional basis...
(if you're really dumb enough to try towing a bulldozer, I guess you deserve the results :-)
still, I don't like the idea of a visible towing hitch or one that chews up any of my already minimal ground clearance. But there's not much you can do about that... I suppose the Da'Lan is too much work to put on and take off on a regular basis... (?) I wouldn't need to tow stuff too often. I will have to ponder. hopefully someone will post details and pictures of the installation...

I was actually referring to this sentence . . .
Damaged caused by towing a trailer is not covered by your Audi Warranty."
The word should be Damage, not Damaged The word you refer to . . . I don't know what you are talking about

I got those installation instructions (which I sent you a while back) but they aren't ...
all that great. they seemed to indicate you need to drill a few holes and perhaps trim a bit of an exhaust shield. it didn't look like you'd want to crawl under and undo the bolts very often, though. ho hum.

They were supposed to send me actual pics of the install . . .
I was also told nothing gets cut or added. Just a straight install into 5 factory bolts. I think it was 5.

You do have to drill two holes ...
both on the driver side. Unfortunately, getting to the nuts on these two holes is quite difficult, so taking it off/putting it on is not something that I would recommend doing too often.
I am looking at using the hitch but with some slight mods (via a friend), to allow me to remove the cross bar when needed. One way is to create an angle (parallel to the ground) on the risers, and connect the crossbar to these angles via removable pins. Another friend does something similar on his S2000 (also a custom hitch).
When we get this done, I'll be sure to get some good pictures.
