spoke to the detailer... he says he can take the scratches out with a buffer without introducing any new swirls... and that the clear coat is thick enough for such an operation. Says I'll never know the hood had scratches in it. He's polished 14,000 cars by his count, so I think he's capable... but as always, the reassurance of this group is necessary before I go and do something that could be dumb.

Yes, a good detailer can do exactly what he claims...ask for references...
