Default Sound insulating/damping the trunk - Pics and questions

I'm in the process of insulating my trunk. I am in the process of using product# 9709T25 from McMaster-Carr - Aluminum 3-ply sound damping sheets. I chose this because it has a .21 Damping Loss Factor compared to .10 DLF of the Polymeric Mastic types and it only weighs .4lbs/sq.ft compared to 1lb/sf of the PM types. I took out my back seat and found two black plates covering holes in the chasis. I dampened these - What the heck are these covers covering (Access to the Haldex?)

Another question - Please can someone tell me how to remove these side panels.

Here is a shot of the aluminim damping material. I just started so I placed a strip on the top of the back seat to trunk area. As you can see it is fairly flexible.

Here is a shot of the other material I bought from McMaster-Carr. It is a vinyl sheeting barrier. I cut it out to the same dimensions of the trunk cover. Its product # 54665T32. I would say that it has minimal results in eliminating sound, but it does have a small affect and it is a good cover for the trunk.

If someone could tell me what the plates cover and how to remove the side panels I would appreciate it

http://www.mcmaster.com/</a

Default If I remember correctly those covers are access holes to the gas tank sensors, lines, etc.

Haldex can only be accessed from under the car.

Don't cover the access holes. It's where the FSU is.
