Default spark plugs / removed coils - oil

I'm replacing the spark plugs myself on my 2000 Audi TT. When pulling out the coils I had to clean off a lot of oil, is this normal or do I have an oil leak?

Thanks.

It is the cam cover gasket. It allows oil to get into the area of the plugs then it causes misfires too. It has a thin area on the corner of the right side of the engine facing the engine. I replaced mine some time back. Be careful around the timing belt area. I dropped a socket in it and had to replace the belt. you might try tightening the hold down bolts first. Also be aware the oil filler port has an extention on the bottom that may not be properly engaged that might allow oil to spin inside below the cover area.

Correct. Oil in the spark plug holes means you need a new valve cover gasket.
