Staggered Rims Question

Staggered Rims Question
I have 19" (19x8) RS4s on my TT with 235/35/19s.
The roads in the city have not been good for my rims. I have already had to replace two tires and one rim (all in the front).
Can I go with a staggered setup and maybe do 18s in the front and 19s in the rear? The 18s I would get would be 18x8 and I guess 225/40/18. Or should I get 235/40/18 ????
Will this work? I have Quattro.

the tires have to be the exact same size on a quattro...
if they aren't, the computer will wrongly diagnose the situation as wheel slip/spin and traction control will constantly be on.
methinks.

Agree with Chris!
You could make this work. You'll have to match the tire diameters, front and back. Take a long look at the Crossfire (there's a model that runs 18/19 I believe) to be certain that you can live with this. I know I couldn't.
Or try looking several posts down the page for the discussion on BBS CH's, if you want to run 19's reliably...

Not a good idea. Quattro requires same sizes all four corners...
Instead, I would recommend going 235/40x19 on all four corners. Get a tire like BFG KDW2 that has reinforced sidewalls to help with your city potholes.
The extra profile height may be helpful. It was for my TT.
Also increase air pressuresl. I run 40psi front and 37psi rear on my TT. I have 225/45x18 BFG KDW 2's. No more ruined tires or bent rims since the change to KDW's with 45 profile.(Knock wood.)
When these wear out I may go 235/40x18 KDW, but may also stay with what is working OK now.

While you could get the tire diameters similar, the differring slip angles of the two different height tires could play havoc with handling and safety..
