Default still disappointed in my shift feel-- thoughts? >>

Took the TT to Induktion today-- got stainless brake lines installed, did a brake flush with motul fluid and had the milltek installed.

Also, had them do a gearbox flush with motul synthetic and adjustment to the shift linkage at the short shifter. As you may recall, I have an HPA short shift kit, which I have set at 35% reduction (there are two settings).

Unfortunately, neither change helped my shifting feel. It is slightly less difficult to shift; however, I'm beginning to worry that it's just a factor of shifting via cable and short shifters.

again, the feeling is this: each shift feels like it has too parts: half the throw, then a pause, then the rest of the throw. It's the feeling of something being shoved through a rubber grommet or something.

I'm getting to the point where it's seriously annoying me that I can't fix it. Going back to a full throw is not an option.

Default I have the same feel with my Forge SS, would this help us ..

I though it was my transmission going, that is what i feel too: half the throw, then a pause, then the rest of the throw, kind of like it gets stuck.

Default I'd talk directly with HPA

they seem incredibly helpful (in my limited experience with them).

glad you finally got the milltek installed. how do you like it?

It shouldn't be the SS-- lots of forge owners don't have this problem

Have you tried swapping with a different SS?

Default most have some type of alignment tool or adjustment>>>

the Dieselgeek solution was "off" for me until i made some minor adjustments...Cannot speak for Forge or HPA, but i would doubt either would want you to be unhappy...

Call their support lines for help, you may find an answer there...

Default If you insist on a big reduction.....>

I'm not sure you can get around it. The VW/Audi Cable set-up seems far less precise and controlled than some other brands. That and the actual transmission shifting characteristics result in a less than satisfactory shift feel. The old 20% Diesel Geek original felt absolutely great and shifted like butter on my car. But 20% was not "Racy" enough for many. Nothing I've ever tried felt better on the TT. Some, like the B&M, are absolutely miserable. Before you blame it on Cable shifters in general, I had a 50% reduction unit in my Boxster and it was every bit as precise as the solid rod shifter on my Vette..Honda in general also does a good job with their Cable shifter feel..

Start with an imperfect situation, then accentuate it with a Big reduction % and you get what you got...:-(

Default thoughts >>

slow down your upshifts to rev-match, and double-clutch downshifts.

Be nice to your synchros.
