Stock stereo vs BOSE

Stock stereo vs BOSE
Sorry for the old subject... I've got a 225 Roadster on order with the stock stereo (the dealer will add the CD changer) instead of the BOSE system that many have complained about... does anyone out there have the stock stereo and like it? Between the stock Audi stereo and the BOSE, which would you choose? Thanks for advice.

I'I was hesitant...
I've heard some not-too-kind things said about the BOSE system. Then I watched Auto Week last evening and they had a review of the TT 225 Roadster w' the BOSE. They said it was the best sound system upgrade they've ever heard, so I called my dealer today and upgrade my order to include the BOSE. I'm sold.

Stock stereo is wonderful; I'm having dealer install CD changer rather than go Bose
My wife has the same stereo (Concert) in her 98.5 A4 with the CD changer and it sounds great. IMHO the Bose is too thumpy, and you end up turning the bass way down to get it to sound more balanced and less like a "thump" car...

This was a concern of mine as well (more)
1200 is quite steep for a stereo system..
Does the stock radio have the automatic car speed adjusting volume feature (I forget what it's called)... That's something I want.
Is the head unit the same or is the BOSE one better?
Does the stock radio come with a seperately installed amp?
How much better is the bass on the Bose system?
I heard that the only difference between the stock and the Bose system is that the Bose system has two extra speakers, and a CD-changer.. is that true? If so, isn't it fairly obvious that $1200 is way steep for such additions.. I mean a a very decent CD-changer and a good pair of MB Quartz and an 4 channel amp for $500-$800.
Is the Bose system really worth it???

I just don't feelt he hate for the BOSE like most members of the forum, was discussing this with...
...my wife on our 800 mile road trip this weekend. It sounds great, plays music, and works.
I'm not an audiophile, but I'm no idiot that thinks a home theater is two speakers hooked up to the TV either...<p>Tom Boucher

I have it and... (more -- long)
I have it and am okay with it. I'm 90% sure I'll be upgrading the subwoofer pretty quickly and maybe a few other speakers later. I doubt I'll change the head unit except as a last resort.
I have just under 4,000 miles on the car now. The system is so-so at normal listening levels. I just don't feel like the whole sound range is represented. When played at VERY, VERY high volume, the rest of the sound comes through. Last night everyone in NJ probably heard me driving through. I found a station in Philadelphia that was playing some fun disco, so I blasted it for the whole world to appreciate. :-) The stereo did surprisingly well. No distortion. I really did have it cranked up all the way too.
I feel it is disappointing that you need to turn the volume up that loud in order to heard the entire range of a song.
Last week, I went to a TTer's house. We played a Portuguese (sp?)-style CD in my TT, then in his two non-TT cars for reference. One of his cars reproduced the bass better than the TT, the other represented the treble. We then took the CD into his house where he had the stereo of all stereos (him wife probably would cringe at the thought of someone calling it a stereo). The thing really was a thing of beauty to the ears. We played the same song there as well. John commented that he didn't even realize that the bass was so prominent in the beginning of the song. It was audible in one of his cars but non-existent in his other car and the TT.
This might sound picky, but hey, the song is very sensual when you hear with the pulse (bass) of the song running through your veins. Without the bass, it is just a beautiful voice.
Just my opinion... again, I have the upgraded system and am satisfied with it. As TP posted below, I agree. I wanted the factory to do the wiring for all the speakers and CD Changer to ensure that the car didn't get ruined when I take it in to switch out a few speakers.
Hopefully changing a few speakers will help me feel satisfied with the sound.
