Default SuperSprint = BAD. RPI Equipped = GOOD [long]

so, i finally got around to lugging some of my parts out of my living room to have them installed on my car -- today, it was the SuperSprint exhaust system. i was looking forward to a few extra ponies and a deeper rumble. instead, i got a fitment nightmare.

though the main pipes hang just fine in their stock mounts, the rear muffler has four mounting points, but the roadster only has two of the necessary mounts. because of that, the tips (which are oval instead of round -- who came up with that?!) don't hang properly. not only are they a bit too low, they hang way too far to the right side. i had to throw a hose clamp onto one of the (extra) muffler hangers and wrap it around my heat shield so that nothing rubs and so that my rear valence doesn't get melted.

a frickin' hose clamp to keep $1K system from screwing up the **** end of my car!

anyway, i purchased the system from RPI (who have always been GREAT to me) and called them to get SuperSprint's phone number. after i finally got a customer service rep on the phone, she refused to talk to me, saying that since i bought the product through RPI, i needed to take it up with them. i pointed out that i wasn't having problems with my service from RPI, but my problem was with the product that her company had produced. she was adamant that i needed to talk to RPI. i asked to speak to her supervisor. he was busy. i left my number. he called me back.

he too wanted me to complain to RPI, and after five minutes or so, i finally got him to listen to me, explaining that i was going to call RPI and complain to them and then they were going to call him and voice my complaints -- by listening to me, it saved everyone time and effort. he consented.

ultimately, it appears that SuperSprint ha(s/d) no idea that the roadster and the coupe are at all different as far as exhaust hangers go. but they also said that they've sold these to a lot of roadster owners without any problems (i don't know of any roadster owners with a SS exhaust, though). but, he offered no real recourse.

i called RPI, and they decided that if the product didn't fit the roadster that there was nothing i could do but send it back to them. i think that's incredibly gracious and cool of them, as they'll be the ones who have to eat the loss, ultimately. i'm going to try to make the system work, but if i can't get it to hang properly (it doesn't look as though i'll be able to do so), they've provided me with an alternative to being eternally upset everytime i look at the rear end of my car.

if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this work, i'd love to hear them. but, if not, well... know that RPI gets a big, fat, greasy thumb up from me!

Default Someone please correct me, but I think the coupe only has two mounting points for the muffler

If you rotate your center pipe, does it move the tips around? I had to do this with my Borla.

Default I believe it helps to have the extra hanger from the 180 also. I don't

have the part #'s, but someone should. I have them but haven't had a chance to install my exhaust either. Good luck.

Default

What if you got the other two hangars that the coupe has? Frame should be the same.

Default first: thanks, evan! second: where do i attach that?

i'm so bloody miffed right now that i may just send it back. the guys at RPI already said that they'd be fine selling it to a customer with a coupe, and frankly, i'm pissed enough at supersprint that i don't want their product on my car.

okay... breathe... okay...

so umm... i put this extra hanger where, exactly? what do i do with the heat shield? it seems like it'd be in the way.

Default You kinda swivel the bracket in under the corner of the heat shield. I installed>>

mine while my Milltek was in the car. Was a bit of a tight fit, sneaking it around the exhaust, but no biggie. Look at yer car first, but I believe that the nuts that hold it in were already on my car. Hopefully your exhaust has a "boss" hanging off it that the rubber exhaust donut attaches to. As long as it's there, just look above and to the passenger side.... that's where the 180 bracket goes.
