Tamper proof torx bits
Where do you get them? Besides the damn $70 kit from Griots Garage. Trying to replace my MAF and don't want to take the whole housing out if i can just swap the actual unit.

Easy but.....>
There are the new and old style tamperproof Torx. You can get the old style at Napa in a bit kit for a few bucks. The new style may be more problematic to find, but....Grab the torx screws with a pair of small vice grips and they'll come out quite easily. Replace with regular Phillips head screws for easier maitenance later....

check the tube diameter before removing MAF because...
...i just did this swap and i was all set to pull the MAF out of the new tube i got from vwparts.com and to my surprise the tube diameter was the exact same size. i simply swapped the MAF along with the air tube. if you have a CEL you can disconnect your ECU prior to the swap giving it about 30 minutes unplugged, complete the MAF swap and then plug the ECU back in, turn the key on but don't start the car yet, let the ignition sit in the on position for 30 seconds or so, and then start the car. your CEL will go out or at least mine did. thank to all that helped me w/ this. my TT rund stronger than it has in a long time. i think my MAF has been bad for a while before throwing a CEL as the car has never felt so fast.
