Default Is there a "green" way to dispose of used shocks/struts?

I am going to be replacing mine soon and I have no idea how to dispose of them. They contain oil so technically they should not go in the garbage. Any suggestions? I guess the old springs can be taken to a scrap yard. Thanks for any input. Joe
