Default Proposing a correction to the chart for 1999...

Looks like the chart needs a correction for 1999. I have a copy of a news release, posted by Denny back on August 26, 2000, that states that a Total of 52,579 TT cars were produced in 1999. Consisting of 8,557 Roadsters and 44,022 Coupes. Here's the text of the post:

HEADLINE: Audi plant in Gyor produces 100,000th TT sports car

BODY:

Gyor (NW Hungary), the company announced on Friday. The 100,000th Audi TT, a convertible Roadster, has been bought by an American customer.

The car bodies are manufactured at Audi AG's plant in Ingolstadt, and are transported to Gyor by rail. Audi has invested DEM 70m (HUF 9.1bn) in the 35,000sqm car assembly plant at Gyor, which now employs 1,100 people.

Audi produced 13,000 TT Coupe sport cars in 1998. Last year, mainly as a result of introducing three-shift working, Audi Hungaria raised the annual capacity of the plant from 30,000 to 50,000. The Gyor plant now turns out 260
cars a day.

The Gyor plant started assembling Audi TT Roadsters in the third quarter of 1999. Last year, the factory produced a total of 52,579
TT cars (8,557 Roadsters and 44,022 Coupes). This year, the company plans to produce 50,000 cars, half Coupes and half Roadsters.

Audi Hungaria Motor Kft, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Audi AG, was established in 1993. In addition to cars, the company produced more than one million engines last year. Audi Hungaria had turnover of DEM 5.53bn (HUF 720bn) in 1999. The company does not plan to expand
production volume this year. Since 1993, Audi has invested a total of DEM 1.883bn (HUF 245bn) in Gyor and the sum invested is expected to
reach DEM 2bn by the end of next year.

No. Exclusivity because of cost , a la Ferrari, is a good thing; otherwise, not so much.
