Is there any truth to the statement that the higher VIN numbers have less transmission problems.

My opinion is that we do not yet have enough data. We can only hope so and continue to monitor.

Early on we tried linking the VIN numbers to the problem and it wasn't conclusive. I'm #2637,
will have had my FWD a year as of this June 22, and I haven't had any grinding at all. People with much later VIN's than mine have had the grind. I personally think that they have a quality control problem and there are big batches of bad trannies because of parts tolerance issues.<p>

As an example, I am #4949, delivery June 26, 1999 and I had a tranny problem...
albeit a minor one that was corrected with synthetic gear oil of a different weight than stock. This was a dealer-corrected item, not my own "idear".
My tranny has been great since. 12,000 miles on her this week.<p>Ivan
