thinking about getting a tt, don't know how soon but have some questions never the less
i'm only considering a coupe.
1. is the 225 worth the extra 5 grand over the 180hp? should i get a 180 and put the 5 grand into the engine/exhaust/suspension/brakes?
2. how moddable are both the 180 and the 225?
3. quattro or fwd in the 180 case? which one handles better? which one has more mods out for it?
the reason i'm asking about quattro is that i have one on my 2001 a4 right now. but i don't know if its ignorant to say or not, but i really can't tell much difference between it and my fwd car, maybe i don't drive it hard enough..
thanks

most performance for least money, including mods
how far can you mod 225 and how far can you mod a 180? if i can get like 280hp out of 180 and still be under the price of a stock 225 then it's all good.

Not quite . . .
Better to build on the 225 than on the 180. You would need to get a 2002, since the 180's will be only automatic fwd girlie/grandma cars beginning with '03 in September.
The APR Stage 3 kit for the 180TT will cost $4,000 plus $1,000-2,000 for install. If you get a '02 180Fwd you will need a clutch and quaife differential, that will add at least another $1,000-3,000 between parts and labor. The 180TTQ would also require a new clutch, figure $1,000 including labor.
The 225 on the other hand can be had for about $3,000 or so more than a 180, has the 6 spd tranny and better compression ratio for higher hp and the Stage 3 kits will be out within a few months(hopefully) and they will be topping out at 330-360hp instead of the 180's 290-300hp.
The 225 also has slightly larger stock brakes, but they would/should be replaced on either of the models.
The second intercooler and larger intake plumbing also helps the engine breathe better and produce more hp.
Hope all of this useless info helps you make your decision. . . my vote is for a 225. Keep in mind this is all coming from someone that has owned a 180TTQ since Nov 1999.
