Default For those of you interested in front camber plates...

I've been looking for plates to allow me to dial in up to -3 degress of camber for autocross and track days. my suspension is maxed out at -1.6 front and -2.4 rear. those rear settings are ok, but not the fronts. 2Bennett in Davis, CA makes nice CNC'd plates, but they are kinda pricey at $599. Of course everyone knows that KMAC makes rear bushings for our cars, and they just recently finally started shipping their front plates. Shox.com quoted me $265, so I began correspondance with KMAC to help make a decision. For $265, I was almost ready to go.

I emailed KMAC originally about 2 weeks ago asking for more info on the kit. No response for about 4 days, then a curt email saying yes we have it. nothing else. I asked for more info and got a little more info another 4 days later, saying they had 2 degrees of adjustment, and that it is a different kit than is available for the Mk IV VW (contrary to what their website says). So I asked if that was 2 degrees in either direction or total, and if they were suitable for light competition use. Here is the email i got back today, after another 4 days or so:

Ben,
2 degrees either way.

Yes, same as VW MKIV kit.

Yes, track and autocross.

Ben - noticed you have been quoted $265 (is a typing error) - correct price for #141016K is $465.

Managing Director

On vortex, folks their have said that they have been told the kit is NOT suitable for competition, and some of them have actually ordered and installed (with much cutting of the strut towers). They have all commented that the kit is "cheap" and seems less substantial than what Ground Control and others make for other cars. Unfortunately, there aren't many options.

Never fear! I am going to get the 2Bennett kit and test for all of us. It will only be a little more expensive than the KMAC kit, and since I am only about 20 minutes from their shop, support will be great (unlike KMAC in Australia with POOR response times, i mean come on, it's not like we're using old fashioned letter writing here!). I also expect quality to be top notch.

2Bennett's pricing is actually not that far out of line with professional grade stuff from ground control etc.

Wish me luck!

Default Actually, with the TT, you don't have to cut the towers.

It has the bolt holes for the brace that work perfectly.

Default Sounds great! i'm surprised you find -2.4 rear camber o.k.

i'm running -1.5 and it really lightened up the rear. and of course brought inner tire wear to a nil.

Default I like a light rear. it comes around like it's supposed to now.

and my mistake, its only about -2, not -2.4. also surprisingly my tire wear has been fine...

Default Ah!

Now, an integrated strut-brace/camber plate: there's the ticket!
