Toshiba 42H81 arrived. Burn in procedures requested - RTFM no help.
What is on/off time suggested and for what duration (# of days) recommended? Should not contrast and color be turned down during this time period as well?
TIA

Nice TV. I'm holding out for the 65HX81. Wonder if Jenner likes his TV?

I have almost the exact television- last years model
Did you get any kind of extended warrenty plan? I just use it, but remember sometimes it can take 30 min for the TV to warm up, and sync all the guns, but once it is done it is incredible.

No burn in is required. Your components and the television itself have already been "burned-in". However, you should purchase a calibration DVD as you will find out that your presets are not even close to what a calibration will reveal and most people don't have a clue how a TV should be setup. I have the Video Essentials calibration DVD but Avia also makes one. I found the Video Essentials to be $15 cheaper either on the internet or at most highline music stores. I recommend you purchase it as it will come in handy when you want to check or retest something. I also checked my settings and readjusted several times because the amount of light present in the room during calibration greatly affects our sight. One thing to be aware of is too much contrast. You will find the correct setting will be between 40-60% according to the calibration disk but be sure to keep it close to this range when playing DVD's that display letter box black bars on your set (yes, you will see this as there are 8 ratio formats in regular use in the movie industry and none of them exactly match the 16:9, or 1.78:1, ratio of todays HDTV screens or standard 4:3 screens). Too much contrast for too long a time can burn a line across your CRT's where the black bars and screen meet if the screen portion is very bright. Most likely this will never occur because it is very unlikely you would be watching the exact format ratio over and over again. However, it's better to be safe than sorry. One other thing you might want to consider is to have your set professionally calibrated. The cost is anywhere from $150-$300 depending upon what is done but the results can be stunning. A great many sets are improperly calibrated or "disturbed" after leaving the factory. They do take a beating during shipment. Just make sure the person doing the calibration is certified.
