Default Track/Street/AutoX Brake Pads

I know this comes up from time to time - I searched and read through the results but didn't find the precise question nor answer.

I have an '02 225QC w/ Bilstein Sports and H&R springs but otherwise stock. I may chip or flash it for a little more power but nothing extreme. I have 53000+ miles on the OEM pads and would like something acceptable for street and better than OEM for occasional autocross and track days. I know compromises will be made - who else has made them, what did you go w/, and how did it work out?

Default most extreme is carbotech AX6 for AutoX. Can't use it for track days, and will create a lot of dust

and noise for everyday driving. I had HP+ before then and they are worthless for AutoX, but good for track and everyday driving. Still plenty of dust though.

Default Carbotech + Stoptech = :-)

If you can scratch up a few bucks get a front brake upgrade. I put StopTech ST40s on the front and it's easy to switch out my Carbotech XP10 track pads and 1521 street pads. Switching out pads on the stock front calipers is a PITA compared to the StopTechs. I'm glad I spent the $$ on the front brake upgrade.

AX6 would be a good choice if you stick with stock calipers and don't want to switch them out periodically. Expect dust and maybe squeaks.

Default You can actually use the AX6 for track days

The AX6 was previously the P+ and they are a better pad than the HP+ even in track situations. They are more for the novice and intermediate track day driver. There's plenty of people including myself that have done testing of those pads for different uses. I used Carbotech pads over 5 years ago when they had their kelated compounds too.

Default Re: Carbotech + Stoptech = :-)

I just KNEW someone would tell be to go w/ StopTechs! I'm not doing that; I just want some better pads.

How much trouble is it to change pads? It sounds like autoX pads are a different animal than street/track pads.

There was mention in old posts of Ferodo DS 2500s - any experience w/ those?

Thanks.

Default Ferodo 2500

Dusty, but great ! Have something like 50K on them, a couple of autox', and three track events (7 days). Still going strong.

Default I'll need bigger rotors with the AX6 for track. As it is, they already get glazed with the heat

Thanks for the Carbotech tip back then btw

Default 2nd that.

i love my ferodo's they have amazing cold bite and steady friction levels. good to about 1200 degrees iirc, which is high, enough for a mild track day. and the are quiet. the HP+'s are super noisey.

Default No problem

Glad the Carbotech advice took care of some of your issues. The AX6, IMHO, is better than the HP+ for track use but again, they are meant for novice/intermediate drivers. The more aggressive a drive, the more likely they are to fade.

The DS2500 are ok and I use them on the back of my car. They have a bad characteristic of smearing the transfer layer when they overheat though which I really don't like.
