Default TT 225hp K04 questions.

Is there anyone here that has actually compared a factory 225 k04 to the k04 used as an upgrade for the TT 180hp? I would like to know the differences in mounting and configuration.
I just rec'd a 225 exhaust manifold that I ordered in preparation for a planned upgrade. Now that I have it in my hands, I notice that the turbo mounting flange differs from the transverse mount K03 set up that I presently own. I am now assuming that the 225 factory k04 turbo is unique to the 225 and will not fit on any other 1.8T setup. am I right? If someone could post some actual pics of a TT225 turbo installed on the engine, it would put to rest all the speculation that floats around here!

Thanks,
Les Burt

Default I think the aftermarket K04 turbo is a little bigger than the factory K04's...

I'm not sure about this but I remember Jenner telling us about it. The 225's offered in NA has a different K04 compared to the ones they sell in Europe too. This is what I was told, I'm not certain though.

I had a good look at a Euro Etka parts catalog, and the P/N for the Euro 225 exhaust manifold is exactly the same as the NA 225 part. I didn't think to check the turbocharger though.

The housing may be larger, but the guts are the same.

I don't mean to knock your expertise, but look carfully at this photo, you will see my 225 manifold at the bottom (P/N in blue) and a part of a photo I found here on Audiworld showing part of the exhaust manifold on a TT 180. In the red circles, you will notice the differences in the turbo mounting bolt pattern, making the manifolds different enough to not be interchangeable.

My original post was not so much to discuss these differences, but to discuss the differences in the 225 factory K04 turbo Vs the K04 used to upgrade the TT 180.
Can anyone confirm the actual differences or atleast let me know what turbo I need to fit to my 225 manifold?

Thanks,
Les Burt

Thanks,
Les

Default Re: I mean US version 225 exhaust manifold and Euro version 225 manifolds are the same..

not the 180 and the 225.. and as I noted before..the K04 you get from the 'kit' upgrades from AWE, they ARE supposedly bigger than the ones on the stock US version of K04 in the 225. Should have Jenner and RobTT confirm this since both of them have the turbo upgrade for their 180's.

Sorry, I mis-understood what you were implying. Anyway, I have seen numerous articles on the 180 K04 upgrades, and there are gazillions of photos showing the transverse K04 turbo upgrades, but none showing a 225 TT Factory K04 turbo. I recall reading somewhere that the TT 225 K04 turbo ressembles the A4 K04, but no one has given me a 100% confirmation of this. If this is so, then what does the down pipe look like?

The actual info I am looking for is this, will a K03 or K04 turbo from an A4 fit on the TT 225 exhaust manifold that I have? From the A4 photos that I have seen, I would guess yes, but I would like someone to back this up with some true fact.

Thanks again,

Les

Default Correct,PES K04 kit for 180TT is a 4 bolt exhaust flange and the stock 225 K04 is 3 bolt. The 225 is

slightly smaller but links up to a LARGER exhuast manifold. The 180TT K04 has a LARGER exhaust flange(thus 4 bolts) but a smaller exhaust manifold.

The best of both worlds, would be the K04 kit turbo with the 225 exhaust manifold, but they won't match up(4 bolts won't link to 3).

ROBTT almost had this problem and I caught it just before he got his K04 kit(he wanted to do what I just said above). He ended up just having the 180 exhaust manifold extrude honed.

Mance(exTTreme) had the the 225 turbo and 225 exhaust manifold with three bolts each, so he didn't realize he had a different turbo until I asked him to take some measurements for me.

Hope this helps. If anyone needs more info about this email me or ROBTT.
