Default TT being parted out on Ebay...

I need to replace boots on my car.
I figured it might be easier to just buy the axles.

This car only has 2400 miles on it.
Only one is good.

He is willing to sell it to me at a crazy cheap price. How hard is it to change a boot anyway diy?

Default I'm assuming you mean CV boot?

It's not "that" hard at all actually, did mine like 3 weeks ago. With the right tools (even has the dedicated tool to crimp the new clamp), DIY about an hour from jacking the car up.

Default no, don't get a used axle, that's silly. boot is only $20 or so... 1-2 hour DIY job.

Default Not sure what's the general concensus is on re-manufactured axles...

but I found them to be about $69 each with a $55 core charge. So $69 is not bad at all, considering OEM boot kit and shoulder bolt is about $35.

Default Nope.

A $69 "rebuilt" axle is SUCH a bad idea. All they do is take the best looking core parts and slap together with new boots and grease. You're very likely to get a joint that someone drove on with a ripped boot for who-knows-how-long.

If the boot is ripped but the joint is OK, replace the boot. If the joint is shot, replace the joint with a NEW one.

Default I was quoted $400 labor for replacing boots...

new axles I was told were $800 per side

Remember, I'm preparing to get rid of this car.
I just want to make sure I repair the f-up the stealership left me to clean up.

It's bad. I've been shopping for another TT for the past few weeks.
